Systems Thinking In Schools Level 1 Classroom and School Applications |
|
This multiple day workshop will provide an introduction to Systems Thinking and its connections to other effective instructional practices. Using the tools of systems thinking, i.e. Behavior-Over-Time graphs, causal loop diagrams, stock/flow maps and models created with STELLA® software, participants will learn about, practice and adapt applications of systems thinking to standards-based teaching and school improvement strategies. |

This learning opportunity will provide an introduction to systems thinking and its connections to critical leadership skills and school improvement efforts. During the workshop, participants will:

develop skills and knowledge in the use of systems thinking concepts and tools.

experience, practice, and discuss interactive, inquiry-based professional development and school improvement strategies.
-
use systems thinking tools to analyze complex issues and identify high leverage interventions.
-
develop and share a plan of application relevant to school leadership. |

This workshop builds upon the understanding of basics systems thinking concepts introduced in the prerequisite Level 1 course. Participants will meet once per month in a collaborative action learning process to address the following topics:

Systems Thinking in Schools-Level II |
|
This two-day workshop will expand on understanding of systems thinking concepts and tools gained during Level I. Participants will build interconnected loops, create stock/flow maps, and use computer models and simulations. |

Introduction to Computer Modeling/Simulation-Level II |
|
This 15-hour workshop will provide an introduction to dynamic computer modeling using STELLA software. Participants will:
-
create, run, and analyze simple models and pre-made simulations.
-
identify how creation of computer models would enhance understanding of curriculum standards. |

Learning Collaborative-Level II |
|
The collaborative is an informal gathering of educators interested in applying systems thinking to their work. Meetings will focus on refining and reviewing systems thinking concepts and tools as an ongoing follow-up to Level I. Please bring student work, learning artifacts, lesson plans, new activities, questions and resources to share. |
